Running a Kindle Niche Research analysis

Niche Research is BookTrendr's core Kindle market research tool. It pulls live Amazon data for any topic — bestsellers, keyword demand, categories, and an AI-scored opportunity summary — so you can judge whether a book idea is worth writing before you write it. Think of it as an all-in-one Amazon book market analysis: demand, competition, and category fit in a single pass.

How it works

  1. Type a topic into the search bar (be specific — "keto diet for beginners" works better than "diet") and click Analyze. This costs 10 credits.
  2. You'll land on Top Paid Bestsellers — the current top sellers for that topic, with BSR, estimated sales/day, price, and reviews for each.
  3. Above the table, the Opportunity Score gives you a 0–100 read on the niche, with a plain-language summary explaining the number — search demand, review barriers, and where the real gap is.
  4. Switch to the Keywords tab to see related search terms, their monthly volume, and a Quick Score. Click "Research →" on any keyword to analyze it as its own topic.
  5. The Categories tab shows two things: categories your real bestsellers are actually shelved in (verified), and other categories worth considering based on keyword relevance. Use "Copy Path" to grab the exact category breadcrumb for your own book's categorization.
  6. Reader Analysis infers what readers likely want based on bestseller performance and search demand — not real review text, since that data isn't reliably available, but a grounded read on the market.
  7. Ideas & Strategy (opened separately, since it takes a moment to generate) gives you a verdict, differentiation angles, and a launch difficulty rating.
  8. Click Save to Projects to keep the analysis — it's free to save and revisit anytime from My Projects.
Tip: the "Latest Published" tab shows recent releases in the niche — a good signal for how active and how competitive a niche currently is, separate from the all-time bestseller list.

Reverse Book ASIN & URL Analysis

Two different ways to research the competition directly, without running a full Niche Research analysis.

Reverse ASIN

Reverse ASIN is BookTrendr's reverse ASIN lookup tool for books — it shows you what keywords a specific competitor book ranks for on Amazon.

  1. Find a competitor's ASIN (the 10-character code in its Amazon URL, e.g. B0DCF34BWR)
  2. Paste it into Reverse ASIN and click Analyze (2 credits)
  3. You'll get a ranked list of keywords that book shows up for, sorted by relevance — useful for reverse-engineering how a successful book in your niche is actually getting found

URL Analysis

URL Analysis takes any Amazon category page, bestseller list, or search results URL and gives you instant aggregate market stats.

  1. Copy a URL directly from Amazon — a category page, a "Best Sellers in X" page, or a search results page all work
  2. Paste it in and click Analyze (3 credits)
  3. You'll see average price, average reviews, average rating, and total book count across everything on that page — a fast gut-check on a category's overall competitiveness

Both tools have a "Research →" link on individual results, letting you jump into a full Niche Research analysis for anything interesting you find.

Monitoring Kindle books & authors

Monitor is BookTrendr's Kindle price tracker and bestseller rank tracker in one — it watches specific books and authors over time (BSR, price, and review count) and alerts you when something meaningful changes.

What counts as "meaningful"

  • BSR improves by 30%+ since the last check (breakout)
  • BSR worsens by 30%+ since the last check (drop)
  • A book crosses a review milestone (10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, or 1,000 reviews); above 1,000 reviews, an alert fires when the count grows 30%+ since the last check
  • Kindle price changes by $0.50 or more
  • A monitored author publishes a new book

Getting started

  1. From any bestseller row, Reverse ASIN result, or Niche Research page, click the menu icon and choose "Add to Monitor"
  2. To track an author instead of a single book, go to Monitor → Authors and paste their Amazon author page URL
  3. Every free account gets 3 books of monitoring, free, for the first month — no purchase needed
  4. For ongoing tracking beyond that, add the Monitor add-on from the Billing page — this is priced separately from your plan and available on any plan, including Free

Turning on email alerts

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications
  2. Enter the email address you want alerts sent to and click Save
  3. Toggle on whichever of the five alert types you want to receive by email — in-app alerts (visible in the Alerts tab) always work regardless of your email settings

If you cancel Monitor: tracking pauses immediately, but your history is kept for 90 days. Resubscribe within that window and everything — including your existing books, authors, and their snapshot history — picks up right where it left off.

Standalone tools & Book Title Generator

A few tools are available without running a full analysis. They're quick, single-purpose lookups, and each costs a small number of credits.

  • Search Keywords (Tools menu) — look up search volume and a Quick Score for any keyword or phrase. Costs 2 credits.
  • Search Categories (Tools menu) — find Kindle categories relevant to a topic, with a rough fit score. Costs 1 credit.
  • Reverse ASIN and URL Analysis are also reachable from Tools directly, without needing a saved project first.
  • Title Generator — enter your book's topic, genre, and a few optional details (target audience, angle) to generate 25 titles across 5 different proven formulas. Costs 1 credit per run.

These are a good starting point if you're not ready to spend 10 credits on a full analysis yet, or just want a quick answer to one specific question.

Getting started
What is BookTrendr?
BookTrendr is a Kindle market research tool for KDP and self-published authors. It pulls live Amazon data — bestsellers, keyword demand, categories, and competitor books — so you can validate a book idea before you write it.
What's the difference between the standalone tools and Niche Research?
The standalone tools (Search Keywords, Search Categories, Book Title Generator, Reverse ASIN, URL Analysis) each do one focused thing and cost just a few credits per run. Niche Research runs a full analysis — bestsellers, keyword demand, categories, and an AI opportunity score — for one topic in a single pass, and costs 10 credits.
Do I need a paid plan to use BookTrendr?
No. The free plan includes 20 credits on signup, usable on any feature — there's no plan-based restriction on what you're allowed to run, only on how many credits you have available.
What is a good BSR for a Kindle book?
There's no single number — it depends on the category. In general, a BSR under 10,000 in the main Kindle Store signals strong, consistent sales; under 100,000 is still meaningful in a smaller category. Niche Research shows you the actual BSR of real bestsellers in your topic, so you're comparing against your specific niche rather than a generic rule of thumb.
How do I estimate Kindle sales from BSR?
BSR and sales volume are correlated but not identical across categories, so we don't quote a single "BSR = X sales/day" formula. Instead, Niche Research shows an estimated sales/day figure per bestseller, modeled from real BSR and category data, so you get a grounded estimate rather than a generic chart.
How do I validate a book idea before writing it?
Run a Niche Research analysis on your topic. It shows you real demand (search volume), real competition (bestsellers, their reviews, and pricing), and an AI-generated opportunity score summarizing whether the niche looks worth pursuing — the same due-diligence a KDP researcher would do manually, in one pass.
How do I find low-competition book keywords?
In Search Keywords or the Keywords tab of Niche Research, sort by Opportunity — keywords marked "High" combine decent search volume with a specificity that suggests less direct competition. For a fuller picture, use the "Check real competition" option on any keyword to see actual competing books and their review counts.
Credits & billing
How do credits work?
Each feature costs a fixed number of credits, regardless of your plan: Niche Research is 10, URL Analysis is 3, Reverse ASIN and Search Keywords are 2, and Search Categories, Book Title Generator, or a Monitor snapshot is 1. Every research action uses credits — your free 20 credits on signup let you test the tools before subscribing.
What do I get on the free plan?
20 credits on signup, usable on any feature. There's no monthly renewal on the free plan — once your 20 credits are used, you'll need a paid plan or a credit pack to continue.
Do unused credits roll over?
Yes, on all paid plans — unused credits carry over month to month rather than resetting.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings → Manage Subscription. That opens your billing portal, where you can cancel, update payment details, or view past invoices.
What's your refund policy?
Unused credit packs are refundable within 5 days of purchase. Credits already spent on an analysis aren't refundable, since that analysis was delivered. Subscriptions can be cancelled anytime — you'll keep access through the end of your current billing period, but we don't offer partial refunds for unused days. If a request fails or errors but still uses a credit, we'll refund it — contact us with details, ideally a screenshot, so we can resolve it quickly.
Monitor & alerts
What's Monitor, and why is it a separate purchase?
Monitor tracks your books and authors continuously in the background — checking BSR, reviews, and price on an ongoing schedule. Because it runs independently of any single analysis, it's priced and purchased separately from your main plan, and it's available as an add-on on any plan, including Free.
Do I get any monitoring for free?
Yes — every account gets 3 books of monitoring, free, for the first month, with no add-on purchase required.
What happens to my data if I cancel Monitor?
Tracking pauses immediately, but your history is kept for 90 days. Resubscribe within that window and everything is restored automatically.
I'm not getting email alerts — what should I check?
Make sure an alert email is saved in Settings → Notifications, confirm the specific alert type you're expecting is toggled on, and check your spam folder for messages from alerts@mail.ai4writers.club.
What triggers an alert?
Five things: a BSR improvement of 30%+, a BSR drop of 30%+, a review milestone (10/25/50/100/250/500/1,000, then 30%+ growth above 1,000), a Kindle price change of $0.50 or more, and a monitored author publishing a new book.
Can I see a book's full ranking history, not just the latest snapshot?
Yes — open any monitored book's history from the Books tab to see its full BSR, price, and review trend over time, not just the most recent check.
Data & privacy
Can I export my data?
Yes, on Starter plan and above. Go to Settings → Privacy & Data → Export to download all your projects, monitored books, and alerts as a single file.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete account. This schedules permanent deletion in 30 days, and you can cancel the request anytime before then from the same page.
Is my usage data shared or sold?
No. We don't run any third-party analytics or tracking. The only data we keep tied to your account is what's needed to bill you correctly and show you your own usage history — it's never anonymized, aggregated, or shared elsewhere.
Troubleshooting
A feature says "Coming soon" — what does that mean?
It means the UI exists but the feature isn't built yet — we'd rather show you that honestly than hide it or pretend it works. The Amazon Marketplace selector in Settings is currently the only example of this.
Niche Research seems slow — why?
It's pulling live data from Amazon and keyword sources in real time, not serving a cached or pre-built answer — a full analysis typically takes under a minute. If it's taking noticeably longer than that, let us know.
No results for that search — try a different term, or send us a message below.
